Exactly 38 years ago to date, on October 1, 1975, not only in Philippine history but also known internationally, took place the third and final infamous clash between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. Held at Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Philippines was called the “Boxing of Century”. During that time, the late Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos proposed to host the bout and to sponsor it to distract people’s attention over the social turmoil that the country is going through, following the declaration of Martial Law. Ali won the fight via technical knock-out in the 14th round. As a tribute to Ali, the first multi-level commercial center ever built in the Philippines, located right beside the coliseum where the fight took place, was named “Ali Mall” in honor of Muhammad Ali and his victory.
